Hammer Time
As if its talk show hosts aren't irritating enough, 1090 radio insists on adding a whole other level of annoying.
The station's sports updates at the top and bottom of each hour are often handled by a guy named Hal Brown, who recently started referring to himself as "The Hammer." Why? Apparently he decided that, without the nickname, he wasn't reaching adequate levels of annoying.
If you've never heard a Hal Brown sports update -- consider yourself fortunate -- we're trying to think of the best way to describe his insanely grating voice. Let's see ... we have no idea what the guy looks like, but based on the sound of his voice, we envision the portly, odd-looking fellow with a crew cut who works the key machine down at your local hardware store.
And we can't decide what's more irritating about "The Hammer" -- his annoying voice or the cutesy little editorializing he interjects into each news update. Come on, we get enough dumb, uninformed opinions during the rest of the hour -- just give us the news.
This must be some calculated effort by the suits at 1090 to add some flavor or personality to the news updates. But it's failing miserably. Even Adam Carolla must be embarrassed by the clown who calls himself "The Hammer."
Why can't local radio newsmen be more professional? You know, like Les Nessman.

I completely agree. Hal Brown is so annoying, I actually got on the internet to see if I was the only one! Not only has he "glossed" himself with his own nickname, he's also stolen half of Rome's "have a take, don't suck" line. In addition, to make himself even more ridiculous, he's now referring to himself in the third person. He's trying to coin his own lingo, which makes communicating a little difficult when he's conducting a monolog rather than a dialog. For example, his constant referral to the chinese during the olympics as the
'chi-comms" was embarrassing and annoying as hell, as he's back doing the same schtick every 30 mins!
Morons being morons...it's clear The Hammer needs to do some schoolin...
The Hammer didn't nickname himself The Hammer, The Hammer was nicknamed given the nickname The Hammer by Jim Rome back in the day at XTRA Sports 690. If nothing else, PLEASE try to be accurate with your attack...it makes it so much more effective. Which takes me to "schoolin 2"
The Hammer learned long ago that personal attacks are made by jealous, envious little people who are pathetic and are to be pitied
And by the way I do my thing THREE times an hour now on the Scott and BR Show, 5am-9am, Monday through Friday on Double X 1090

It's disappointing to hear the unprofessional response by Mr. Brown, and his choice on the new afternoon show. Fortunately, we other choices on the radio.
